SUMMARY:Webinar: Culturally Responsive Care - Historical Trauma Effects on Maternal Health among Indigenous Women-Past and Present
DESCRIPTION:Indigenous women are two to three times likely to die of pregnancy-related causes then Caucasian women. Indigenous women experience disparities in pregnancy related death and maternal health conditions. Ongoing and Historical Trauma (colonization\, genocide\, forced removal and cultural erasure) contribute to these health inequalities. Today\, Indigenous women still experience discrimination or racism in health care settings (systemic barriers to care\, including higher rates of poverty and longer distances to quality health care services). Despite these challenges\, Indigenous people continue to be resilient and thrive due to protective factors (support systems\, spirituality and Indigenous specific resources/programs) along with receiving culturally responsive care which is key! \nRegister

SUMMARY:Webinar: Perinatal Grand Rounds - Pregnancy Complications in the Wild
DESCRIPTION:Pregnancy-related emergencies can occur long before labor begins and often present with subtle signs that can\nrapidly progress to life-threatening conditions. Through three compelling case studies\, eclampsia and HELLP\nsyndrome\, pregnancy-induced cardiomyopathy\, and hereditary angioedema in pregnancy\, participants will explore\nthe challenges of recognizing and managing critically ill obstetric patients in prehospital\, emergency\, and transport\nsettings. This session will highlight key assessment findings\, clinical decision-making strategies\, and evidence-\ninformed interventions that can improve maternal and fetal outcomes. Attendees will leave with practical tools and\nincreased confidence to identify and respond to rare but high-risk pregnancy complications when every minute\ncounts. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Webinar: Culturally Responsive Care - The Healing Mixtape: A Blueprint to Advancing Culturally Responsive Perinatal Care
DESCRIPTION:The Healing Mixtape is an innovative\, highly interactive session that blends arts‑based reflection with evidence‑informed perinatal practice to strengthen culturally responsive care across Wisconsin’s maternal and infant health ecosystem. Adapted from Dr. Diamond D. Williams’ nationally recognized Healing Mixtape framework\, this session uses curated music\, guided dialogue\, and reflective activities to illuminate the lived experiences of birthing people and the clinicians\, doulas\, midwives\, nurses\, and public health professionals who support them. \nParticipants will explore how music can surface the emotional\, cultural\, and structural realities that shape perinatal care—revealing moments of trust\, tension\, resilience\, and healing. Through guided listening\, small‑group reflection\, and practical application\, attendees will examine how rhythm\, lyrics\, and storytelling can deepen understanding of patient experiences\, strengthen communication\, and foster psychological safety in clinical and community‑based settings.\nThis session offers actionable strategies for advancing culturally responsive perinatal care\, including approaches to equity‑centered communication\, relationship‑building\, shared decision‑making\, and respectful maternity care. Grounded in Dr. Williams’ H.E.A.R.T. leadership and engagement model—Health Equity\, Evidence\, Accountability\, Relationships\, and Transparency—participants will leave with tools they can immediately implement to enhance birthing experiences\, support workforce well‑being\, and contribute to a more just and human‑centered perinatal system. \nDesigned for clinicians\, nurses\, midwives\, doulas\, lactation professionals\, public health practitioners\, and anyone committed to improving perinatal outcomes\, The Healing Mixtape invites us to listen differently\, lead intentionally\, and care more deeply\, because culturally responsive care is not just a practice\, it’s a rhythm we create together. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Webinar: Perinatal Substance Use Series - Addressing Tobacco Use in Pregnancy: First Breath's Approach
DESCRIPTION:Tobacco use during pregnancy is influenced by more than nicotine dependence alone. Factors such as stress\, mental health\, stigma\, other substance use\, social support\, and access to care all shape a person’s experience and ability to make changes to their tobacco use. SUMMARY:Webinar - Perinatal Grand Rounds: Vasa Previa
DESCRIPTION:Vasa previa is a rare but serious pregnancy complication in which the fetal blood vessels run through the fetal membranes and lie across the cervix. During labor\, the blood vessels can be compressed decreasing blood flow and oxygenation to the fetus. When rupture of membranes occurs\, the fetal blood vessels can tear\, resulting in severe fetal blood loss and death. This presentation will review strategies for early detection and management. \nRegister

SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Webinar: Historical Trauma Effects on Maternal Health Among Indigenous Women-Past and Present
DESCRIPTION:Join Candi Cornelius\, MSN\, RN for the next installment of the Culturally Responsive Care Series. Indigenous women are two to three times likely to die of pregnancy-related causes then Caucasian women.

SUMMARY:Culture by Design: Black Birth Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Now in its fifth year\, the Black Birth: Maternal & Infant Health Symposium returns as a transformative\, two-day convening dedicated to advancing health equity and addressing disparities in Black maternal and infant health. Co-presented by GE HealthCare and the City of Milwaukee Health Department\, the Symposium brings together community members\, researchers\, healthcare providers\, policymakers\, and advocates at a pivotal moment for equity-focused health initiatives. \nWith Black women facing pregnancy-related mortality rates three to four times higher than white women\, and Black infant mortality in Milwaukee nearly three times higher\, the urgency for coordinated action is clear. The Black Birth Symposium serves as a platform for advocacy\, education\, and systemic change\, amplifying innovative solutions and strengthening pathways to healthier outcomes for Black families in Milwaukee and beyond. \nThrough the leadership and support of presenting\, leading\, and sustaining partners\, the Symposium continues to drive community-centered solutions and collective impact—igniting change and shaping a healthier future for Black mothers and babies.
