Webinar: Culturally Responsive Care – The Healing Mixtape: A Blueprint to Advancing Culturally Responsive Perinatal Care

August 26 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The Healing Mixtape is an innovative, highly interactive session that blends arts‑based reflection with evidence‑informed perinatal practice to strengthen culturally responsive care across Wisconsin’s maternal and infant health ecosystem. Adapted from Dr. Diamond D. Williams’ nationally recognized Healing Mixtape framework, this session uses curated music, guided dialogue, and reflective activities to illuminate the lived experiences of birthing people and the clinicians, doulas, midwives, nurses, and public health professionals who support them.

Participants will explore how music can surface the emotional, cultural, and structural realities that shape perinatal care—revealing moments of trust, tension, resilience, and healing. Through guided listening, small‑group reflection, and practical application, attendees will examine how rhythm, lyrics, and storytelling can deepen understanding of patient experiences, strengthen communication, and foster psychological safety in clinical and community‑based settings.
This session offers actionable strategies for advancing culturally responsive perinatal care, including approaches to equity‑centered communication, relationship‑building, shared decision‑making, and respectful maternity care. Grounded in Dr. Williams’ H.E.A.R.T. leadership and engagement model—Health Equity, Evidence, Accountability, Relationships, and Transparency—participants will leave with tools they can immediately implement to enhance birthing experiences, support workforce well‑being, and contribute to a more just and human‑centered perinatal system.

Designed for clinicians, nurses, midwives, doulas, lactation professionals, public health practitioners, and anyone committed to improving perinatal outcomes, The Healing Mixtape invites us to listen differently, lead intentionally, and care more deeply, because culturally responsive care is not just a practice, it’s a rhythm we create together.
